At Learning for Life, we offer resources and expert guidance to help you navigate your child’s sensory world, reduce overwhelm, and promote emotional well-being. Whether you're a parent, teacher, or caregiver, we’re here to empower you with the tools and strategies to make a positive difference in your child’s life.

What is Sensory Sensitivity?

Sensory sensitivity occurs when a child’s nervous system processes sensory input (like sounds, touch, smell or movement) differently, making ordinary experiences feel overwhelming—or underwhelming.

Key Signs Your Child May Be Sensory Sensitive:

  • Over-Sensitivity: Easily overwhelmed by sounds, textures, smells or busy environments; avoids new activities.

  • Hypo-Sensitivity: Seeks constant stimulation, like jumping, spinning, or touching objects.

  • Interoceptive Challenges: Struggles with potty training or recognizing hunger, thirst, temperature or fatigue.
